Assets managed in domestic listed equity are estimated at approximately BWP 30 billion in 2025, around USD 2.2 billion, projected to reach approximately BWP 42 billion or USD 3.1 billion by 2030, growing at around 7 percent annually.
The exchange hosted 32 listed companies alongside 4 exchange traded funds and 137 listed bonds as at 30 June 2025, spanning both the domestic board and foreign or dual listings.
Pension funds dominate, holding over 80 percent of the exchange's free-floating stock, with insurance companies, asset managers, sovereign institutions, corporate treasuries and retail investors making up the balance.
Over 60 percent of pension assets were reported invested abroad as at 2022, reflecting the limited capacity of a narrow domestic listed universe to absorb institutional capital at scale. This remains an active policy discussion.
Vunani Fund Managers, Allan Gray Botswana, Kgori Capital, African Alliance Botswana and Imara are among the asset managers, alongside bank and insurance-linked managers, the stockbrokers Motswedi Securities and Stockbrokers Botswana, and the Botswana Stock Exchange as market infrastructure.
